A Brief History of RavenCon

FPU Gamers' Club used to go to PAX East fairly regularly and in 2015 the then Secretary of Gamers' club, Sadie Sunderland, proposed that we have our own convention here at FPU. She planned and ran the first RavenCon for April 2015 with the help of a small committee of club members (later named Conmittee). The first RavenCon was a success, but was largely limited to the campus community.
RavenCon 2016 was our second year and was also led by Sadie. That year we switched up events to make the con more successful and starting inviting off-campus guests to attend with a small fee. We also created a Facebook page that year which helped with getting the word out about the con. After Sadie graduated, Troy Nikander took over as Conchair to run the 2017 RavenCon. Swag bags were introduced to the con this year and were very popular. Rebecca Brand was voted in as Conchair to run RavenCon 2018. She tried to expand upon the con's online presence by adding an Instagram, Twitter, and creating this website. Off-campus artists were invited to vend for the first time. Swag bags were expanded to include the con logo as well as more items. She hopes this year's convention will be just as successful as those before it. Now for RavenCon 2019, Conchair Cameron Day has brought his experience of running two other conventions, as well as aiding in RavenCon 2018 and attending many others to 2019. With a single, centralized location; a stronger push for community outreach and connection; and a drive to utilize the strengths of the Conmittee, the club and his prior connections, RavenCon 2019 is ramping up to grow even more. |
